Valentines 2013

Can you believe we’re ready to celebrate another holiday?

Wow, time is flying (yipee…we’re that much closer to warm weather!).

Valentines is one week from today.

For my family it’s all about what we’ll be eating.

The only “rule” is that it must include pink heart-shaped food.

Check out our menu for the day:

A terrific way to start the day…adorable heart shaped pancakes and strawberries.

If I can sneak these sandwiches into my girls lunch boxes, I’m totally doing it.

I realize my 7th grader may give me some serious grief when she gets home from school.

Perhaps some milk and cookies will get me off the hook for sneaking in those heart sandwiches.

No matter what shape or color, meatloaf and mashed potatoes is everyone’s favorite meal in my house.

And, what better way to end the night.

And…this for the adults :) .

Looks pretty good huh?

How do you celebrate Valentines?

Do you go out for dinner, stay in?

Making pink heart-shaped food?

Chalkboard Art

Both Nicole and myself want to express our heartfelt sympathy to all the families and residents of Newtown. This senseless act weighs heavy on all. One of the take aways from this horrific tragedy is to cherish your loved ones…give out extra hugs and kisses and be sure to always say, “I love you”.

I debated whether or not to post today, but feel it’s important to keep a sense of normalcy. With that we’ll post when we can over the next few weeks, hoping to provide you with some holiday cheer.

**************************************************************************************

You know my pure love for chalkboards, right? You say ten chalkboards is a bit  excessive, borders on obsession? Perhaps, but they add so much to a space…the flexibility they offer. I use them for practical purposes, like making grocery/dinner lists, as well as adding a bit of uniqueness to our spaces.

For the past ten years we’ve used our extra large vintage chalkboard in our foyer to greet guests with personal messages. My favorite is when my husband and two little girls welcomed myself and our newborn home. They included cute messages to Ella from her big sisters…that was the best!

You can see some of our chalkboards messages here or here. We’ve also dedicated a entire board on Pinterest. So when I saw that Jennifer Rizzo  (one of my favorite blogs) did this Santa drawing on her chalkboard it was love at first sight! Yes, a marriage of Christmas and chalkboards-two of my FAVORITE things (I hear a songs coming on…).

Here is Jennifer’s Santa art work.

Isn’t it fantastic! Vintage Santa’s are my favorite…so you can understand why I had to give it a try myself.

Here is my copycat version…not too bad huh?

It was fun doing doing something a little different on the board.

Here’s the question…will last until Christmas (there are lots of little hands around here:) ?

Have a wonderful Monday friends!

Holiday Shopping-Local Love

We’re in the thick of Christmas shopping, cookie baking and all around Decking the Halls.

Thirteen days and counting…yikes!

Each year I try as much as I can to shop at local stores.

They offer one-of-a kind or hand crafted items that can’t be found anywhere else–love that!

Not to say that I don’t shop at big box stores because I definitely do.

But small local shops offer terrific products and service that is hometown quality.

Check out a few places that I love to shop at.

Oh,…and a few places to grab a bite to eat along the way.

Shopping makes a girl hungry-right?!

Number one on the list is Craft Company No.6–showcases local artisans jewelry, gifts and decorative accessories.

My most favorite shop in all of Rochester…Parkleigh.

The best place to go for that special gift for someone…OR yourself (done that before!).

And if you love McKenzie Childs, this is the place to go.

If it’s time to sneek in a sweet treat or pick up a holiday dessert, you’ve got to head to Savoia Pastry Shoppe.

Somehow, I can vouch that their Ding Dong cake is SOOO YUMMY!!!

The Unique Toy store in beautiful Canandaigua is my “go to” for children’s gifts.

They offer the best stocking stuffer’s as well.

Wisteria Flowers and Gifts offers more than just gorgeous flowers and plants. They have handcrafted furnishings and decor items that make excellent gifts for anyone on your list.

Talulah’s Fancy right here in Honeoye Falls, features many area artisans as well as owner/artist, Tamara Stopinskis’ beautiful jewelry.

After you shop at Talulah’s, you must head down the stairs of the Lower Mill and have a bite to eat at The Rabbit Room.

Nothing better than a farm to table experience!

We’re rounding out our list with The Village Bakery & Cafe’  in Pittsford, for a bite to eat or for fresh breads/pastries. Any of their confections would be a great addition to a holiday party or as a gift.

Hmm…it appears I eat more than I shop :) .

So these are the stores I’ve been to recently.

I’m working my way through my Christmas gift giving list.

How about you?

Do you have a favorite store for holiday shopping? Do tell!

Happy Shopping!

PS…now I’m hungry…pastry anyone??
