Spring Bling

I’m ignoring the fact that it’s snowing like crazy outside and still acting like winter.

I’m ready for warmer weather.

I’m not asking for much…just some days filled with sun and blue skies.

Despite, whatever Mother Nature is doing to us, it’s time to get some Spring bling on!

A few weeks ago, Nicole and I hit a terrific estate sale.

I love when we find the unexpected as well score the items that we went for.

Just when I thought we saw it all, I spotted a tiny room with some vintage earrings.

{Yes, an unexpected score!!}

Vintage jewels are so beautiful.

The glitz and glamour of long ago is simply one of a kind.

The sparkle and pastel colors are gorgeous aren’t they?

I appreciate the beauty of vintage clip on earrings, but knew I would never wear them.

It came to me that I could make magnets out of them.

They may not get attention from wearing them these days, but will get a new kind of attention holding up pictures & artwork around my home.

{Okay, I realize some of you may be gasping that I’m dismantling something vintage…but, that’s what we do around here.}

Using my handy dremel, some super strong glue and magnets I got to work.

I love how the magnets add that extra something special and unexpected.

The sparkly aurora borealis magnets are my favorites.

Do you have a favorite?

These will be available at our next sale later this Spring.

Weekend Wrap-Up

How was your weekend?

Ours was good.

It was one of those weekends where we did a little of this and that.

Here are a few pictures from my phone that captured some of our weekend activities.

 ******

Retail therapy for ideas only.

Of course it was one of those days that you LOVE everything you see.

Don’t you love these chairs?

I don’t need chairs, but if I did I would scoop these up.

Can you ever have enough letters?

The filigree letters were pretty.

Why wasn’t there a G??? C’mon-that can’t be a poplular letter.

wknd4

How cute are these owl mugs?

Perfect for hot chocolate, icecream a latte.

Hmm…I may have to go back to get these.

wknd2

I liked this very simple saying…something to live by.

wknd3

Nicole and I hit an estate sale where I was looking for frames for my daughter’s wall collage.

Although I didn’t find any frames, I did get these. Yay!

wknd5

wknd6

Basketball games…there’s nothing better than cheering your kids on.

wknd7

Finally,we capped it off with the Super Bowl.

A good game.

Mediocre half-time..(perhaps I’m not a Beyonce fan).

BUT…

Great food…sushi, pizza, nacho platter…

Quite the diverse food choices huh?

That’s what happens when you let three girls choose what they want to eat!

Hope you had a great weekend friends!

Just in Time for Thanksgiving – A Vintage Pie Safe

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to be at The Mother of all Estate Sales. It was a sale that spread across three barns and the owner had once owned an old shop. It was filled with great signs, display pieces, vintage decor and chippy furniture. While I scored a lot of great things for the upcoming sale, I also scored something for MYSELF: A beat-to-heck, filthy, gorgeous vintage pie safe.

Because how in the world do you visit sale after sale without grabbing something for your own home once in a while? You don’t!

Figuring out how in the heck we were going to get it home was the next step. With the trailer attached, Carin and I carried attempted to carry the incredibly heavy chest to the car. We’ve had varying experiences at sales, sometimes a couple of gentlemen will step in to help, and sometimes not. Which is fine with us, we like to think we can handle it. As you can imagine, sometimes we are in over our heads and both the condition of the piece and our health wind up at risk!

Fortunately we had some help loading up the pie safe, BUT I did NOT have help backing the trailer out onto a VERY busy road. I was pretty freaking proud that I got it done. (AND…my husband never noticed the small scratch on the Jeep! BONUS!)

I was convinced that the pie safe was falling to pieces in the back with each bump we hit.

Here’s it is, nestled safely, as we stopped for some lunch:

See that brown thing sticking out? Yeah, that would be my purse. I put it in there as we carried attempted to carry the chest out of sale. And I totally forgot it was in there.

It was absolutely filthy. The days of this piece storing pies are OVER.

With the purse rescued, we were back on our way. The rest of the trip was uneventful, thank goodness.

After a lot of cleaning and scrubbing and pleading with my husband to help me carry it inside, here it is:

I love the chipped paint and the complete disarray of it’s condition. It fits in around here. We’re consistently in a state of disarray.

Ahh filled with books, topped with some vintage globes, and capped off with a school house map and a sign from an old travel agency.

It fits the space perfectly. Until next week, when I change my mind and we have to break out the trailer again!

Have a great day, friends!
