Spring Bling

I’m ignoring the fact that it’s snowing like crazy outside and still acting like winter.

I’m ready for warmer weather.

I’m not asking for much…just some days filled with sun and blue skies.

Despite, whatever Mother Nature is doing to us, it’s time to get some Spring bling on!

A few weeks ago, Nicole and I hit a terrific estate sale.

I love when we find the unexpected as well score the items that we went for.

Just when I thought we saw it all, I spotted a tiny room with some vintage earrings.

{Yes, an unexpected score!!}

Vintage jewels are so beautiful.

The glitz and glamour of long ago is simply one of a kind.

The sparkle and pastel colors are gorgeous aren’t they?

I appreciate the beauty of vintage clip on earrings, but knew I would never wear them.

It came to me that I could make magnets out of them.

They may not get attention from wearing them these days, but will get a new kind of attention holding up pictures & artwork around my home.

{Okay, I realize some of you may be gasping that I’m dismantling something vintage…but, that’s what we do around here.}

Using my handy dremel, some super strong glue and magnets I got to work.

I love how the magnets add that extra something special and unexpected.

The sparkly aurora borealis magnets are my favorites.

Love Cake

It’s Valentine’s Day.

Last week I shared what we plan to have for tonight’s special meal.

The piece de resistance is the Valentine cake.

I may not be the next Great Baker for Buddy Valastro, but hopefully my girls will think it’s pretty cool.

It looks so easy to do all kinds of fancy shmancy stuff until you have that piping bag in your hand and realize those loopy hearts are way harder than they look.

I took creative liberty and went with what any novice would do…

X’s and O’s.

Admittedly, I felt a little confident after whipping off those X’s and O’s.

The natural progression is to jump into cursive writing-right?

Ahem…I may have been a tad ambitious.

People train themselves in cake decorating, right?

I guess my” critics” will let me know what they think….Please, be kind girls!

{I’ll share a picture of the inside of the cake later. I didn’t have the heart (ha, no pun intended) to cut into before the girls could see it.}

Local Love At The Rabbit Room & Talulah’s Fancy

This past Sunday myself and a friend attended the 3rd annual Mad Hatter Tea and Brunch at the the beautiful Rabbit Room restaurant located in the Lower Mill in the historic village of Honeoye Falls. Tamara Stopinski of Talulah’s Fancy is the creative brainchild behind this unique event.

This being my first time attending I wasn’t sure what to expect when the invitation encouraged coming in costume. I’m not a costume, dress-up kinda girl (seriously, Halloween has always been one of my least favorite holidays for that very reason…weird, I know!) But, let me tell you how cool it was seeing women dressed in hand-crafted hats and outfits straight out of Alice in Wonderland garb. The imagination that went into some of these costumes was spectacular.

Once I took a break from people watching I turned my attention to the menu. The Rabbit Room is known for their amazing food using local ingredients and vendors. Their impeccable attention to detail is refreshing. After feasting on our champagne, lunch and delectable desserts we headed upstairs to an open house of local artisans including Talulah’s Fancy shop and studio where she creates her beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces. What a treat to see all of this local talent!

I tried to capture the day with some pictures taken with my phone. I was so bummed that I left my camera home, so these pictures don’t do the event justice, but you get the idea.

The menu was great…everything sounded so good!

I had the Monte Crisco with fresh fruit and roasted potatoes while my friend had the Parisian gnocchi.

Both were to die for!

I had to hold myself back on wanting one of everything…truffles, chocolate cake, mini eclairs..and there was more that you don’t see!

There were so many people who were dressed up in such cool costumes, but honestly I felt a little funny taking pictures of them. When the table next to me asked to take a picture of this girl I piggy backed on the opportunity. Again, this picture does not do her justice. Her costume was really clever with lights and all!

Amy E. Colburn was one of the local artists who really captured my attention. I fell in love with her vintage inspired letter plaques. How cute would it be to spell out your childs name or special word? She’s incredibly talented and offers a variety of artwork. Be sure to check her blog, and Etsy shop for one-of-a-kind work.
