Plates And Numbers

Decorating with numbers continues to remain a hot trend as evident in the lastest decor magazines and catalogs. I love using numbers because they can represent so many things - someone’s age, a favorite date, a lucky number and so on.

As with numbers, decorating with plates has long been popular as well. Whether you decorate with a few plates or a wall full, they add great interest, texture and color to what can otherwise be a dull space. My “on a dime” plate collections have been found from local flea markets to big box stores. The variety of plates is endless and that’s what makes decorating with them so fun.

All these plates in my kitchen came from a local antique store for a few dollars each. The different colors, shapes and sizes were just what I was looking for in this awkard wall space.

Since I love both numbers and plates why not marry the two?

This was my inspiration. Don’t you love it?

When I decided that I wanted numbers to represent the year our home was built, (c.1844) I went straight to Etsy knowing that I could find some fabulous numbers to choose from. If you have never been on Etsy you MUST check it out. So many great shops full of uber talented folks. This shop owner was super easy to work with, quick with my order and sent along a few extra decals as well as step-by- step instructions. Check out her site - she offers so many fantastic decals.

It was so easy to put the decals on existing plates I had on hand. Nothing like doing a project in under five minutes!

I love the added charm and personalization it adds to our foyer. And did you notice that you don’t see any plate hangers showing? Maple and Magnolina  shared this easy idea of super glueing picture brackets onto the back of the plate; thus no need for ugly plates hangers…brilliant! That’s the only way I’ll hang plates from now on.

How do you decorate with plates, numbers or both? Do share!

I love decorating with plates. Yours look amazing! I’m looking to rearrange the ones I now have above our kitchen sink and would love to know the trick to hanging them without the metal holders. I went to the link in the blog you shared but the page couldn’t be found. I’ve used these handy little invisible holders too and highly recommend them: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TAQKEG/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details

    Thanks ladies!

  4. Just love this. And now I’m having a “why didn’t I think of that” moment … thinking that I can’t get custom vinyl without a fancy machine when I can just custom order off of Etsy!

    :)
