Buffet Make Over

About 15 years ago before kids, my husband and I were frequent auction goer’s picking up anything our budget allowed to outfit our Victorian home. The thrill of bidding on an item and actually winning the” prize” of course  is the best part…that’s exactly how we felt when we purchased this buffet. We scored big time on the price and couldn’t wait to get it home and add it to our very empty dining room.

Over the years it has taken center stage in various rooms only to be relegated to the basement a few years ago (can you believe I even tried to sell her multiple times…NO WAY!) I was growing tired of the dark wood but felt like I should’nt paint it. Some people say that you should NEVER… I mean EVER paint “fine” wood.  What do you think?  Well whatever the “rules” are I was going to break them. I grabbed my Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue chalk paint and went to town.

I’m so glad I took a chance, broke a few rules, and gave it new life with paint and glass knobs.

Once again it takes center stage…and something different has been moved to the basement…oh well!

  1. This looks AMAZING Carin!

  2. I really love what you did with it! The color you chose looks amazing! Rules smooles… good job! :) I always say if you’re not gonna even use it otherwise, go ahead & pick up the paint brush!

    • Hi Renewed Upon a Dream!

Thanks for the great feedback! I’m loving the color too and so glad I finally jumped into this.
I love your 25 list…I can totally relate to making dinner…one of my least fav tasks too…and as for the snow…we haven’t had any either and my are going stir crazy.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I love the curved side cabinets on this piece. Really awesome. I am in the process of stripping a china cabinet that is fine wood and really debating the whole paint vs refinish thing. Normally I paint ANYTHING! In this case, I just don’t know. This makes me lean a little toward the painting side…. Nice job.

    • I get what you’re saying…as you probably already know go with what you LOVE and what you’ll enjoy most in that space. Have fun and look forward to seeing the outcome!

  4. Yeah! I am getting ready to start work on a VERY similar piece for my family room. My plan was to paint it in Provence but no you have me thinking… Absolutely LOVE the end result and the glass knobs.i was also not planning on replacing the original knobs but I love the way the lass ones look. Great job!

    • Love Provence too…although that’s one I haven’t used yet…I say go for it and I look forward to seeing the results on your blog. As for the knobs I picked them up at Target of all places :)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. [...] Our adorable desk needed a little TLC…a fresh coat of white latex paint (I will remind you this was waaaay prior to ASCP) before it could make its way into my daughters room to be filled with important papers, silly putty, handful of markers and miscellaneous craft projects. She used this desk until last year when we upgraded her to a more “mature” desk to fit her ever growing paper collection. Our cute little desk was relegated to the basement…the catch all for unwanted furniture. Can you relate? You can read about my previous piece relegated to the basement here. [...]
