This Valentine’s Day I thought I’d surprise my darling husband with something I’d seen floating around the internet. These Abstract Art Street Maps are all the rage. A lot of people are selling them, but thanks to my crazy Photoshop skeellz, I knew I could whip one up in a jiffy.
Well, a “jiffy” turned out to take a little longer than I thought. It took a lot of time to trace all those roads!
First I opened up a screen grab that I had taken from Google Maps; then I used the line tool to trace each street.
Once that was done, I simplified and merged all seven thousand line layers.
Then I made a new layer to use as my background – I chose a simple red for Valentine’s Day.
After deleting the original map layer and flattening I was left with what you see below. (The white background was the white space intended for when it was framed.)
Oh I forgot, I also added a heart where our new house is located. (I moved the heart in this version to avoid dealing with those internet stalkers. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.)
I printed the map and then placed it in a simple frame. Easy-peasy.
I was going to make one for my parents, or my in-laws, but they live in the country, so it would look like this…
Maybe not.
Happy V.Day.
