Have I mentioned that we have chickens? Let me introduce you to a few…
In 2010 my husband said to our three girls, “Wouldn’t it be fun to have chickens and gather our own eggs”? With a resounding “YES” we forged ahead building a coop and odering chicks. Are you sensing where this story is heading?
Flash forward to 2012…who do you think takes care of these little beauties? ME! The cleaning, feeding, and egg collecting novelty wore off within months. The one thing that has not gotten old is the taste of fresh organic eggs. We eat an egg meal at least once a week and bake like crazy.
When we ordered our chickens from McMurray Hatchery we chose chickens that would lay cool colored eggs. Isn’t that how real chicken farmers decide what chickens to buy? Half the fun is finding light green and speckled brown egg in the nesting box. I know they’re just eggs, but really they are pretty. Why has it taken me so long to do this project ? When I mentioned this project to my girls they were all over it. I know you can imagine the craziness and laughing that went on…kids…slimy egg goop…yup!
After cracking a few we ended up with a handful to display in one of my ironstone bowls. This was a fun project that you can do with your own eggs or eggs from your local farmers market or egg stand. Even if you use store bought eggs, you can infill with fake eggs from your favorite craft store to achieve the look you want.
This is my goal.

This may take awhile…we’ll be eating eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I could be wrong but I think this may be the first time you have linked up here at BeColorful and I wanted to say welcome and so glad you are here. This was really fun to read. I had no idea that there are light green eggs. I buy our eggs at the store but I always look for the organic eggs that they stock from the Amish community not too far from where we live. My little part of going green I guess plus I know more of what I am getting.
Your pictures were wonderful and I really like the name of your blog and the blog banner.
Thanks again for stopping by and linking up.

Thanks Pam for stopping by…and get those Amish folks to get you some green eggs
Hi, found you from AtoZ. I also have chickens and they can be a little bit of work. My daughter is still hanging in there feeding them. So far we only get two brown eggs a day, waiting on the third hen to start laying. That’s a good idea with the egg display. Thanks!
I love that you chose your chickens based on the colors of egg they lay! Too funny. And who knew there was a chicken ‘catalog’ of sorts …
But how cool to strive for a cloche of multi-colored eggs with no dies or faux finishes involved!
Thanks for linking up to our Cinch party!

How cool – love your color coordinated egg laying chickens!
Want to see them lay so many, you have dozens of filled cloches! Wait, don’t want to overwork those girls!
Love the look of natural elements in the spring and the eggs look fabulous displayed on that cute scale!
So glad you linked these up to our Cinch party.

Yes, those chickens have their work cut our for them…no lazy chicks here:)
Love the Cinch party…thanks for stopping by!
so good to connect with other chicken lovers! McMurray Hatchery is great. We have two hens (Gingernut Rangers) – Henny and Penny. They say two wings up to your girls and their egg production!
