Valentine’s Day Mantle

With all those Christmas decorations away my house was starting to look pretty…meh. I can’t find any of the decorations I put away to make room for all those ceramic snowmen and Santas. And when I do find something, I can’t remember where I had it.

Instead of trying to re-do the old, Carin and I are doing some Valentine’s Day decorating with our mantles that we’re sharing over at Home Stories AtoZ.

First off – I’m not a huge Valentine’s Day fan. I think it’s great for kids to exchange .09 cent cards but beyond that – not so much. (With the exception of those boxes of chocolates with all the different goodies inside, but I love those all year long.) So my mantle isn’t filled with pink hearts or cupids, instead it’s all the things I love.

Books. Cameras. Maps. Flowers. It all makes me smile.

………

Valentines is the perfect craft holiday at my house. All three girls love anything that has to do with paper, paints, & glue. Recently, my youngest asked if we could make some tissue paper flowers…remember those? After some cutting, folding and fanning we ended up with a few dozen flowers. Our mantle is a perfect place to showcase out valentine inspired flowers.

Next thing I know the paints have made their way out and onto canvas…a valentine’s themed painting done by all three girls. The added bonus is they did this all without fighting!

I love how both projects capture who my girls are…creative, loving and beautiful.

Are you feeling the LOVE?

  1. I love the idea of a mantel display with your favorite things, and it looks great! I really like your animal sculpture.

  2. What a great idea!! I never would have thought of doing that!! LOVE it!!

  3. Perfect with the touches of red and things YOU love. It is our own homes. We should love it regardless of the holiday or the blog party. ;-) Mine isn’t too Valentine heavy either. And I’m ok with that.

  4. Love the subtle touches and the keys are adorable! Thanks so much for linking up to the party!

  1. [...] I am a lover of books. I am never reading less than two books, sometimes as many as three. Books are a huge part of my life and I would guess they are for many of you. I can’t imagine anything better than a house full of books I love. And I refuse to accept that filling my house with something I love is “dated” or “tired”. I even recently decorated my mantle with books for Valentine’s Day. [...]
