Simple and Pretty Ribbon Table Runner

I hate buying table runners. I get tired of them quickly and as we saw back in November, I’m not going to be sewing any in the near future. So instead I decided to make an easy and fun runner for Valentine’s Day out of some ribbon you can find at any craft store.

All I had to do was run the ribbon down the length of the table and make sure it laid straight – nothing an iron can’t conquer. Then I trimmed the ends and, as you can see above, they look really pretty simply hanging over the edge.

I laid down a cool vintage frame that I had floating around and then arranged a simple centerpiece that I knew would help hold the ribbons in place. This is a great idea for when you are placing a ton of candles on the table or several small vases of flowers because they help the ribbons stay together. You could also use double sided tape if you needed to, but I didn’t.

Simple, pretty, affordable and when I tire of it (because I eventually will) I can reuse the ribbons on packages or for other decorating.

Enjoy!

Menagerie of “Tired” Book Decorating

In keeping with our trend of NEVER making you feel badly for all that you didn’t accomplish this weekend – today once again it’s a menagerie of goodies.

I’ve read in at least two different articles this week about designers who are “tired” of people decorating with books. (And I expect there are more articles to come.) They say that it’s old and that they are sick of seeing this over-used trend…you know how the rest goes.

But I have to say that this really, really, really BOTHERS ME.

I am a lover of books. I am never reading less than two books, sometimes as many as three. Books are a huge part of my life and I would guess they are for many of you. I can’t imagine anything better than a house full of books I love. And I refuse to accept that filling my house with something I love is “dated” or “tired”. I even recently decorated my mantle with books for Valentine’s Day.

So, despite this being done a thousand times on other blogs and in protest to the trend-killing designers out there, I am bringing you some great ways to incorporate books into your home. Not because it’s trendy or hip, but because I hope that some of you love books as much as I do.
